For the first time in about 2.5 years, I am finally off my two overnight shifts on Fridays and Saturdays, which had me working from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning.
The trade-off is, I still have to work 2-10 p.m. on those days, but it is so much better. I’ll finally get a on a regular sleep schedule and it means I have at least the back-half of those nights to enjoy after work.
This week, I had a rare day off Friday and realized that I didn’t know what to do.
My friends have been getting the same messages for 2.5 years that include “sorry. I have to work” and “I’d love to, but work”. Like the early days of Facebook and before cloud backup when people asked for numbers after getting a new phone after the old one broke, I now have to inform everyone I know that I’m available after 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. I haven’t graduated to the “In by 9” crowd yet as a 32 year-old, but it will hit you eventually, so I don’t wanna waste it.
So here’s to two-straight days off work and a regular sleep schedule, while restructuring my social life!
